North York General Hospital’s breast cancer care program has become the first hospital in Canada to receive full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is given to centers that provide the highest quality of breast cancer care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process, which includes reviews of their performance. The standards include proficiency in leadership, management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. Patients at these centres must have access to comprehensive care with state-of-the-art services, a multidisciplinary approach to coordinating treatment, information about clinical trials and new treatment options, and quality care close to home.
